The Indian-spec Jeep Compass Trailhawk has purportedly leaked from what looks like a presentation that was conducted using pre-production prototypes. Series production is still months away, and IAB understands that FCA is looking at holding the launch by June 2019.
The Jeep Compass Trailhawk is already manufactured in India for exports, but the configuration planned for domestic sales is not ready yet. Sources privy to the development say that FCA wants to delete features unnecessary or too costly for our market and enhance the styling in a way that it can rationalise the steeper price.
The Jeep Compass Trailhawk features unique fascias with 30.3-degree approach angle, 24.4-degree breaker angle and a 33.6-degree departure angle. Also, it offers a wading depth of 480 mm, 75 mm more than the standard variant. Other exclusives include 17-inch off-road tyres and suspension, Jeep Active Drive Low 4WD system with a 20:1 crawl ratio and low range, five-mode Jeep Selec-Terrain TMS (with Rock mode), red recovery hooks, black anti-glare hood decal, four skid plates and Hill Descent Control.
The Indian-spec Jeep Compass Trailhawk will employ a BSVI-compliant version of 2.0-litre MultiJet II diesel engine (173 PS/350 Nm). A ZF-built 9-speed automatic transmission along with this engine, as available in export markets, is widely anticipated. The 9-speed automatic transmission is quite expensive and that alone can bump the cost by some margin. Moreover, with 120 km/h set as the speed limit in India, there's little scope to make the most of its capabilities.
The Jeep Compass Trailhawk will cost close to INR 30 lakh (ex-showroom) making it the least expensive 'Trail Rated' Jeep in India. The standard variant starts at INR 15.39 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and goes up to INR 22.90 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
