Two test mules of Yamaha’s FZ series motorcycles were spotted on the Bangalore-Chennai highway. The source report suggests that the motorcycles could be the next generation FZ Fi. The motorcycles were reportedly equipped with LED headlight, accompanied by conventional blinkers on either side. The fascia could draw styling cues from the 250cc Yamaha FZ25. Behind the light is a full-digital instrument console.

The next-gen Yamaha FZ Fi test mule, seen on the Bangalore-Chennai highway, reveals revised styling, single-piece saddle and a new exhaust design.

The fuel tank has the typical FZ family silhouette although it may receive a slightly tweaked design in the new iteration. The new tank extensions would give the next-gen model a beefier look. Following the fuel tank is a single-piece, step-up saddle. Do note that the current FZ Fi and FZ-S Fi receive split seat units. The pillion grab rail was covered with plastic, but it is most likely a two-piece unit.

Sides reveal a revised design of the compact and stylish exhaust. A silver heat shield accompanies the exhaust. The side and the real panel, too, have received a slightly tweaked design to give the motorcycle a fresher look. At the rear is a conventional tail light, accompanied by clear cover blinkers.

The hardware list is basic, and thus you would see the conventional telescopic front fork and a monoshock at the rear handling the suspension tasks. This does not come as a surprise as Yamaha Motor uses conventional telescopic forks even on the more premium FZ25. Single disc brakes on both wheels provide stopping power. With the new safety norms coming into effect in April 2019, India Yamaha Motor will launch the revamped FZ with a single channel ABS – a feature that is already available on the FZ’s rivals in the Indian market.

Mechanical specifications are not likely to change. Currently, the 150cc Yamaha FZ series comes in two variants – FZ Fi and FZS Fi. Both bikes use a 149cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder, SOHC, 2-valve engine with fuel injection that is tuned to deliver 13.2 PS of maximum power @ 8,000 rpm and 12.8 Nm of peak torque @ 6,000 rpm. The engine is paired to a 5-speed gearbox.

Expect to see the same diamond frame chassis as the current generation model. Tyre sizes are likely to remain identical, and thus we would see the same 100/80-17 and 140/60-R17 profile tyres at front and rear respectively.
