A Hyundai Styx prototype was spotted on test in India yet again recently, courtesy IAB reader Avirup Basu. Featuring wheel caps, the test mule was in a mid-tier trim.
The Hyundai Styx is the South Korean automaker’s product for the sub-4 metre SUV segment. It will slot below the Hyundai Creta and go against the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport and Mahindra S201 in our market. It is planned for launch even in markets which get the Hyundai Kona. In the U.S. market, it is seen as the indirect replacement for the Hyundai Accent Hatchback.
The Hyundai Styx will bear a mix of contemporary and traditional SUV design. At the front, it will flaunt elements from the brand’s latest design language for SUVs, including an upright Cascading grille and the Composite lights comprising ultra-slim LED DRLs at the top and (halogen) headlights at mid-level. The profile looks quite similar to that of the Hyundai Creta.
The Hyundai Styx’s engine options will vary depending on the market. In India, the options will include a 120 PS (118.31 hp) 1.0-litre T-GDi turbocharged petrol engine and a new 115 hp 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine. The former is already available internationally in other models, and it will get locally manufactured. Both engines will comply with the BSVI emission norms. There’s speak of the 1.2-litre Kappa naturally aspirated petrol engine as well.

Hyundai could price the Styx from somewhere between INR lakh 7-8 lakh (ex-showroom). Reports say that it will launch the new model in April 2019.
