Hyundai Motor Corporation showcased the India-bound Kona EV at the recently conducted Paris Motor Show 2018. The all-electric crossover will launch in India in H1 2019.

The Hyundai Kona EV is available with two powertrain options - 64 kWh and 39.2 kWh. Of these, the former was showcased in India at the 2018 MOVE summit.

The Hyundai Kona EV has been available with two powertrain options. The entry-level version draws its power from an electric motor that produces a maximum power of 136 PS along with a peak torque of 305 Nm. A 39.2 kWh battery pack feeds the electric powertrain. The EV has a driving range of 345 km*. The all-electric crossover sports a 7.2 kW onboard charger through which the battery pack can be replenished entirely in six hours using AC. A 100 kW fast charger can be used to recharge the battery to 80% of its total capacity in just 54 minutes.

The flagship variant of the Hyundai Kona EV sports an electric motor that puts out a maximum power of 204 PS along with a peak torque of 395 Nm. It gets its juice from a 64 kWh battery pack that offers a claimed driving range of 546 km*. The battery pack can be charged completely in 9 hours and 35 minutes through a 7.2 kW charger. The 100 kW fast charger takes 75 minutes to charge the battery to 80% of its total capacity.

The Hyundai Kona EV offers a touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The all-electric crossover benefits from the company’s SmartSense safety pack, which comprises Forward Collision Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Collision Warning including Rear Cross Traffic Collision Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, Driver Attention Warning, Intelligent Speed Limit Warning and Lane Following Assist.

Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) will introduce the Kona EV as a CKD with a sales target of 50 copies a month, in the first half of next year. Its launch will follow the introduction of the Maruti Vitara Brezza-rivaling QXi (Styx) compact SUV.
