Hyundai hopes to set a benchmark for an entry-level hatchback with its new Santro. Among several first-in-segment features, it will offer rear AC vents for uniform and efficient cooling of the cabin, as per a new report from Autocar India.
The Hyundai Santro's main features will include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system as well. This system, with the biggest display in its class, reportedly has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration compatibility. On the safety front, dual front airbags, speed alert system, driver and co-driver SBR, ABS with EBD and rear parking camera will form the highlights. All of these except front passenger airbag and rear parking camera may come as standard.
The new generation Santro will ride on the first generation i10’s HA platform and employ an improved version of the original’s 1.1-litre Epsilon petrol engine. This engine will send power to the wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission or a Hyundai-first 5-speed automated manual transmission dubbed ‘Smart Auto’. Hyundai will offer a CNG variant as well.
Hyundai will take the wraps off the reborn Santro on 23 October. Dealerships will start pre-orders on 10 October, reportedly. Soon after the launch, by the end of December, the Eon will go out of production.
