Ahead of the government-set safety norms deadline, the new Bajaj Pulsar 150 ABS model has been spied testing in India for the first time, courtesy Rushlane. The Pulsar 150 is the highest selling motorcycle in its range.
The new safety norms, which come into effect from 1 April 2019, mandate two-wheelers above 125 cc to be equipped with ABS as standard. While the publication states that the said model has a dual-channel ABS system (owing to the presence of the ABS encoder ring at the back), we beg to differ on this front.
Case in point, the Bajaj Pulsar RS200 and the Pulsar NS200 both come with similar ABS encoder rings at the back but get a single-channel ABS. Moreover, the introduction of dual-channel ABS on the Bajaj Pulsar 150 will drastically increase the price of the bike in India. The Pulsar Twin Disc model currently retails at INR 78,515 (ex-showroom Delhi), and the ABS model is likely to cost around INR 90,000 (ex-showroom).
That said, the new Bajaj Pulsar 150 ABS variant receives few cosmetic updates like faux carbon fibre finish on the side panels, an engine belly fairing and a slightly expanded exhaust. The motorcycle continues with the dual-tone paint scheme, clip-on handlebars, LED taillights and tubeless tyres. The Pulsar 150 ABS model is likely to be launched in India during the festive season (October to November).
The current generation Bajaj Pulsar 150 is powered by a 149.5 cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that is capable of churning out 14 PS of maximum power at 8,000 rpm and 13.4 Nm of peak torque at 6,000 rpm, mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Braking force comes from a 260 mm front rotor and a 230 mm rear disc.

Suspension duty is taken care by telescopic front forks with anti-friction bush and twin gas-charged shock absorbers at the back. The Bajaj Pulsar 150 has a fuel tank capacity of 15 litres and a kerb weight of 144 kg. The motorcycle comes shod with 17-inch alloy wheels that run on 90/90-section front and 120/80-section rear tubeless tyres.
