A test mule of the upgraded Bajaj Dominar 400 was recently spotted somewhere in India. The motorcycle, unlike the current model, was equipped with upgraded hardware such as upside down telescopic front forks and new exhaust design. The bike also features a larger radiator.

The motorcycle is most likely the BS-VI compliant model of the Dominar 400 range that is undergoing pre-launch tests. The BS-VI emission norms are scheduled to come into effect from April 2020. Apart from the Dominar 400, the Bajaj Pulsar and Avenger range, as told by Bajaj Auto’s Managing Director, Rajiv Bajaj, will get massive upgrades with the advent of the new emission norms.
Apart from the upside down telescopic front forks and new exhaust design, the Dominar 400 does not seem to feature any visual changes. The motorcycle retains its muscular styling, although the dual-tone paint scheme has been revised with more blacked out panels. While the headlight is not visible, we expect it to continue as a full LED unit.
The current 373 cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine will receive major upgrades to comply with the new BS-VI emission standards. The performance numbers would most likely vary from the current model’s 35 PS of maximum power and 35 Nm of peak torque. The current generation model features a six-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch, and that setup is not likely to change on the updated Dominar 400. Safety norms would make ABS mandatory on all motorcycles above 125cc, and thus, the Dominar 400 will come equipped with the feature as standard.
At the launch in December 2016, the company said that it was expecting the motorcycle to do 10,000 units a month by September 2017, then revised to March 2018. However the Dominar has fallen short of expectations crossing 2,000 units just once in the first half of this year.

The new, premium hardware will push up the cost of the motorcycle. For reference, the current generation Dominar 400 is sold in two variants and is priced at INR 148,043 (standard) and INR 162,074 (ABS) – ex-showroom, Delhi.
