The Audi Q8 has started reaching dealerships in Germany. IAB reader Amit Ahirrao has sent in images of the first-ever Audi SUV coupe from its home market.
The Audi Q8 rides on the same platform as the Audi Q7, but it’s more than just a coupe version. It follows the new progressive design language that was brought onto the road with the Audi A8 last year. The Q8 interprets the new design elements in its way. For instance, the Singleframe at the front is in an octagonal design, something we will see in more Audi Q family models. The rear lights are connected via a light strip in what has become a signature fashion since the D5 A8. The interior layout and design are in line with this flagship saloon and the latest A7.
The Audi Q8 is currently available exclusively in the 50 TDI engine model with the 3.0-litre TDI V6 diesel engine that generates 210 kW (286 PS) and delivers 600 Nm of torque. This engine is coupled to the 8-speed tiptronic automatic transmission. The standard quattro permanent AWD system and ground clearance of up to 254 mm give the SUV coupe off-road capability. A 0-100 km/h sprint takes 6.3 seconds, while the top speed is 245 km/h.
The 3.0-litre TDI engine comes with MHEV technology that integrates a Lithium-ion battery and a belt alternator starter (BAS) into a 48V primary electrical system. The battery, located underneath the luggage compartment floor, stores 10 Ah of electrical capacity. Thanks to this fuel-sipping technology, the Q8 can coast between 55 and 160 km/h with the engine switched off, after which the BAS restarts the engine. The BAS can recover up to 12 kW of energy during deceleration. The engine start-stop function begins at 22 km/h.

HD matrix LED headlights, 22-inch wheels, adaptive air suspension, all-wheel steering, virtual instrument cluster, dual central display setup, 23-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system and (remote) parking pilot are some of the key features of the Audi Q8. Prices start at €76,300 (INR 60,36,162.80). The four-ringed brand’s BMW X6 rival could land in India in 2019.
