At the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, Skoda took the wraps off the Skoda Vision X concept, previewing its future small SUV. AutoWeek has created renderings to show how the concept may look in production guise.

Reports say that the Skoda Vision X concept’s production version will be called Skoda Polar. The production version’s exterior design will closely resemble the concept, but its interior may have substantial changes. To get a fair idea of the possible dimensions, the concept is 4,255 mm long, 1,807 mm wide and 1,537 mm high. It has a 2,645 mm wheelbase.

The Skoda Polar will ride on the MQB A0 platform, which currently underpins the Seat Ibiza and VW Polo. For India, Skoda would utilise a low-cost version of this platform called ‘MQB A0 IN’. However, Volkswagen Group is yet to greenlight the localisation of the MQB A0 IN platform here.

Internationally, the Skoda Polar is expected to come with a variety of small and compact turbocharged engines in varying outputs, including the 1.0-litre TSI three-cylinder petrol unit, the 1.5-litre TSI Evo four-cylinder petrol unit and the 1.6-litre TDI four-cylinder diesel unit. Maximum power outputs of these engines may range from 95 PS to 150 PS. 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual and 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic should be the transmission choices. An AWD system is not expected, and that would mean power going solely to the front wheels.

Full-LED headlamps, 19-inch alloy wheels, LED tail lamps, large touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charger with GSM signal amplifier (Skoda Phonebox), heated seats, Adaptive Cruise Control, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Blind Spot Detection are the expected key features of the Skoda Polar.

The Skoda Polar will go on sale in the first markets in 2019. In India, if Volkswagen Group decides to localise the MQB A0 IN platform, the Skoda Polar could arrive in early 2021 as the first model based on it.
