It has already been reported that a 1.5 L diesel engine is planned for the Maruti Ciaz. But the new engine won’t be introduced along with the facelift, as per a report from BusinessLine. The sedan will receive the new engine at a later date.
The Maruti Ciaz's Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre diesel engine was said to get replaced by a new Suzuki-developed 1.5-litre diesel engine this year. The new engine is expected to offer better performance with higher power and torque. The 1.3-litre diesel engine produces 66 kW (90 PS) at 4,000 rpm and 200 Nm of torque at 1,750 rpm. The Maruti Ciaz diesel comes with Suzuki's SHVS mild-hybrid system for enhanced fuel efficiency.
In addition to Maruti Ciaz diesel, the SHVS mild-hybrid system is available in only the Maruti Ertiga diesel and Maruti S-Cross diesel. With the rollout of the facelifted Maruti Ciaz this year, Maruti Suzuki will start offering SHVS in petrol engine-powered models as well. “The company will launch a 1.5-L petrol version of the Smart Hybrid Vehicle System (SHVS) fitted in the Ciaz in August,” a source told the business publication recently.
Development of the new 1.5-litre petrol engine is in the hands of Suzuki. Maruti Suzuki planned to introduce it in 2019, but it has advanced the launch to 2018 because of rising competition in the segment. The 1.5-litre engine will replace the 1.4-litre petrol engine that produces 68 kW (92 PS) at 6,000 rpm and 130 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm.

The new Maruti Ciaz will have some minor design changes such as a wider radiator grille, reshaped headlamps, reconfigured front bumper, new alloy wheels and tweaked tail lamps. No significant interior changes are expected. Maruti Suzuki will improve convenience by introducing cruise control in the sedan. The company may enhance the functionality of the SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system as well.
