A little over two years after its launch, the Mahindra Nuvosport has been retrieved from the market reports autoX. Dismal sales has killed off the compact SUV that was launched as a replacement for the Mahindra Quanto.

The Mahindra Nuvosport was launched to replace the slow-selling Quanto, but it never could achieve four-digit monthly sales.

In February 2018, it was reported that the Nuvosport was likely to be among the three models facing the axe as the company would halt investments to upgrade slow-selling models to meet future crash rest regulations. Over the last six months, the vehicle could muster only single-digit sales. Even during the months that followed immediately after its launch, the compact SUV struggled to capture more than 300 buyers a month on average.

Mahindra launched the thoroughly reworked Quanto as the Nuvosport hoping to revive sales of the compact SUV. Powered by a 1.5 L mHawk100 engine, the Nuvosport was offered with manual and automatic (AMT) transmission options. The engine that also powers the TUV300 makes 100 hp and 240 Nm. The official microsite still lists the Mahindra Nuvosport at INR 7,77,222 - INR 10,25,567 (ex-showroom Delhi).

When launched in April 2016, compact SUV buyers looking for a Mahindra product already had the TUV300 as an option. Those looking for something utilitarian could opt for the Bolero and eventually the sub-4 m Bolero Power+. The strange looks and prices close to the TUV300 are likely to the primary reasons for buyers rejecting the Nuvosport.

With new safety regulations set to come in next year, the company sees no point in investing time and money to upgrade slow-selling models like the Nuvosport.

Also, the impending launch of a new sub-4 m compact SUV based on the SsangYong Tivoli (Mahindra S201) may have played a role in the demise of the Nuvosport as well. The upcoming SUV will be aimed squarely at the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport, and Tata Nexon, and unlike the Nuvosport, will utilise a monocoque chassis.
