The spy shots captured are of a Mahindra S201 test mile wearing production ready body. Design elements visible in these images are roof rails, ORVMs with integrated turn indicators, rear roof spoiler, split tail lights with LED signature, bumper mounted rear reflectors/fog lamps, and 5-split spoke alloy wheels. The rear haunch above the wheel, thick C-pillar, and the DLO are reminiscent of the SsangYong Tivoli. One of the images, upon closer inspection, reveals the presence of rear disc brakes.
The Mahindra S201's interior was spied earlier this month. The images revealed a dashboard layout almost completely identical to the SsangYong Tivoli. Features revealed by the images include engine start/stop button, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a dual-zone automatic climate control system and steering wheel mounted controls. Expect dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, and ISOFIX child seat anchorage points to be offered as standard.
As has already been mentioned, the Mahindra S201 will duck under the 4 m length restriction imposed on small cars. As per reports, it will use a 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The former is likely to be a turbocharged unit with a max power of 140 hp. There will be a 6-speed manual transmission. No word on the availability of an automatic transmission yet.
The Mahindra S201 will rival the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport, and the Tata Nexon. It could be priced in the INR 8-11 lakhs (ex-showroom) bracket. In the compact UV space, Mahindra already has the TUV300, NuvoSport, and the Bolero Power Plus.
