Mahindra has launched its first mini SUV, Quanto, in the Indian market, in four variants.
Mahindra Quanto price (ex showroom, Thane)
- Mahindra Quanto C2 – 5.82 lakhs
- Mahindra Quanto C4 – 6.35 lakhs
- Mahindra Quanto C6 – 6.86 lakhs
- Mahindra Quanto C8 – 7.36 lakhs
The sub-4 meter long Quanto is powered by a new 1.5-liter, three-cylinder diesel engine that puts out 100bhp @ 3,750 rpm, and 240Nm @ 1,600-2,300 RPM. The outputs are helped by a twin turbo unit, while ARAI-certified fuel economy stands at 17.21 kmpl, assisted by the 'Micro Hybrid' (start-stop) technology that saves 5% fuel.
The Mahindra Quanto is a shortened Xylo with adventurous design elements on its truncated rear. It tries hard to pose like an SUV with the exposed spare wheel, but opinions of our readers are polarized at this moment.
The wheelbase of the Xylo is not reduced, and hence the first two rows of seats come from the MPV territory.
Mahindra has not proposed any sales targets, but said it has invested under 100 crore rupees on the development of this vehicle on the Ingenio platform, shared with the Xylo and Genio variants.
The price positioning is between the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the Renault Duster.
Quanto's target customer is a newly married man who is looking for a lifestyle vehicle. The brochures show the Quanto with its target buyer, enjoying the waves and sand on a sunny weekend, in the company of his better half.
Mahindra plans to take the Quanto to Europe, Chile and South Africa in the future. A bigger 2.2L engine (used on the Scorpio and XUV500 models) is likely be used, while 4X4 technology would also be available to these export markets.
