BMW India has confirmed that the launch of the new M5 will take place at the 2018 Auto Expo on 7 February. The 2018 BMW M5 made its public debut in Frankfurt at IAA 2017 last September. The BMW 6-Series Gran Turismo and the new MINI Countryman will also be launched at the event.
Powering the 2018 BMW M5 is a 4.4-litre V8 bi-turbo engine. The engine develops 441 kW (600 hp) at 5,600 – 6,700 rpm and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque available from as low down as 1,800 rpm until 5,600 rpm. It can reach a 100 km/h (62 mph) from a standstill in just 3.4 seconds and does 0 to 200 km/h in 11.1 seconds (124 mph). Top speed, meanwhile, is electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph), but the optional M Driver’s Package pumps that number up to 305 km/h (189 mph).
BMW’s xDrive AWD setup sends power to all four wheels. A central transfer case with multi-plate clutch distributes drive between the front and rear axle as per requirements. The driver can turn the system completely off and switch to just rear wheel drive with DSC turned off.
Visual differentiators that set the M5 apart from the vanilla 5-series include larger aperture air inlets feeding the cooling systems and brakes. There is also a rear diffuser and quad pipe setup at the back. 19-inch light-alloy wheels in Orbit Grey and M-specific tyres are offered while 20-inch rims are available as an option. In the standard spec, the 2018 BMW M5 also features Merino leather upholstery and M seats with electric adjustment.
