Real-world testing of the Mahindra U321 continues ahead of its early 2018 launch as seen in new spy shots published by DriveSpark. The company plans to launch the new MPV by February 2018, possibly at Auto Expo 2018 scheduled February 7 onwards.
Mahindra has developed the U321 at its Detroit technical centre. The new people mover will have monocoque construction - a first for a Mahindra MPV. It will debut a new 1.6-litre diesel engine co-developed by Mahindra and SsangYong. In addition, it may have a petrol engine option. Mahindra will have a portfolio of three petrol engines in the future, available in 1.2-, 1.5- and 2.0-litre displacements and each in multiple variants - MPFI, turbo, non-turbo and GDI.
The Mahindra U321’s key features will include toothed front grille, projector headlights, LED DRLs, 16-inch alloy wheels wrapped with Apollo tyres, two-tone (black-beige) interior colour scheme, automatic climate control system and a large central display for the infotainment system, which should offer navigation and Android Auto smartphone integration compatibility among others.
The Mahindra U321’s production will take place at the Nashik plant in Maharashtra. In terms of pricing, the new MPV is expected to slot in between the Maruti Ertiga and Toyota Innova Crysta.
