Just days after the emergence of the first spy shot of Hyundai's new small car (2018 Hyundai Santro), Team-BHP has shared details regarding the engine production for the project known internally as Hyundai AH2.
According to the information shared on the forum, the first unit of the petrol engine that will power the hatchback was produced six weeks ago at HMIL's facility in Tamil Nadu. Hyundai is currently carrying out real-world testing of the engine and the hatchback. The source has not revealed specifications or displacement of the engine.
Employees have taken to calling the AH2 "new Santro", a name the upcoming hatchback is likely to revive according to previous reports. The company is yet to finalise the name of the upcoming Hyundai hatchback. The Santro nameplate enjoys a strong brand image in India and christening the AH2 that will be a wise move.
The market launch of the new Hyundai small car (2018 Hyundai Santro) will take place in the second half of 2018. It will become the first Hyundai product to feature an AMT, the company has already confirmed. It will be bigger and wider than the Santro says Y K Koo, MD & CEO of HMIL.

Expect prices to start around the INR 4 lakh mark ex-showroom. The 2018 Hyundai Santro (AH2) will be targetted at the Maruti Celerio and the Tata Tiago. Diesel variants are unlikely as sales in this particular segment are dominated by petrol variants.
