The Mahindra S201’s spy media has surfaced on the web yet again. YouTuber Bigbang Biker spotted the SUV on the Bangalore-Mumbai highway recently.
Mahindra will launch the Mahindra S201 in two versions in India. One is a sub-4 metre version that will go up against the Ford EcoSport and the Maruti Vitara Brezza. The other is the XL version that will compete with the Hyundai Creta and Renault Captur. Unlike competitors, the latter will offer three-row seating. The spy shots show the sub-4 metre version, which is likely to go on sale first.
Riding on the SsangYong Tivoli’s X100 platform, the Mahindra S201 will slot above the Mahindra TUV300 as a more premium offering. Mahindra will offer both versions with 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol and 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine options. The petrol engine will have direct injection, and it will produce around 140 hp. The diesel engine will develop as much as 125 hp. As for the SUV’s design, Mahindra will give its front-end a familiar look with some changes that differentiate it from the Tivoli. The interior would look very similar to that of the South Korean offering, reports say.

Mahindra’s officially announced the launch timeline for the Mahindra S201 is H2 FY2019 (October 2018-March 2019). Latest reports, however, say that the new SUV will arrive in mid-2018.
