With the launch of the fifth generation model, the 1.4-litre engine options were discontinued in the Hyundai Verna in India. However, Hyundai is not ruling out the entry-level 1.4-litre petrol and 1.4-litre diesel engine for the future.
At the launch of the new Verna, Y K Koo, MD and CEO, Hyundai Motor India Limited said the India-made Hyundai Verna with 1.4-litre engines is mainly for the export markets. Hyundai plans to ship around 60,000-80,000 units of the Verna with the 107 hp 1.4-litre petrol and 90 hp 1.4-litre diesel engines from India a year.
Based on demand and/or policy changes with respect to the GST structure, the company could introduce the smaller engine variants of the Verna in India as well. The smaller displacement, less powerful engines would make the Verna more affordable.
The 2017 Hyundai Verna is available only with 1.6-litre engines as of now. The 1.6L Gamma Dual VTVT petrol engine produces 123 PS and 15.4 kg.m (151.02 Nm) of torque. The 1.6L U2 CRDi diesel engine develops 128 PS and 26.5 (259.88 Nm) of torque. Both engines are paired either to a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic transmission. The fuel economy is rated at 17.70 km/l (petrol MT), 15.92 km/l (petrol AT), 24.75 km/l (diesel MT) and 21.02 km/l (diesel AT).
The fifth generation Hyundai Verna is 4,440 mm long, 1,729 mm wide and 1,465 mm tall. It has a 2,600 mm wheelbase and offers a ground clearance of 165 mm. There's 480 litres of space in the boot.
Hyundai has launched the all-new Verna in E, EX, SX, SX+ and SX (O) grades. On the outside, the car has projector headlamps with LED DRL, projector fog lamps, 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and LED tail lamps are exterior highlights.
