Will go on sale in first markets in March 2017.
The seventh generation BMW 5 Series will be the first ever generation that will offer a plug-in hybrid variant. BMW fan Todor recently spotted this variant, dubbed BMW 530e iPerformance, in Munich.
The BMW 530e iPerformance's plug-in hybrid setup is same as that of the BMW 330e iPerformance (BMW 3 Series plug-in hybrid) already on sale. It consists of the BMW eDrive electric powertrain and a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine which together produce 185 kW (252 hp) at 4,460-6,500 rpm and 420 Nm of torque at 1,450-4,000 rpm.
The BMW 5 Series plug-in hybrid can reach from 0-100 km/h as quick as in 6.2 seconds and consumes only 1.9 litres per 100 km (52.63 km/l) in the EU test cycle. The 530e iPerformance has a CO2 emissions rating of 44 g/km and can be driven up to 50 km in pure electric mode.
