Significantly revised VW Golf will be revealed this month.
Volkswagen has confirmed that the 2017 VW Golf will be introduced this month. Even before the model’s digital reveal, the Golf GTD variant (performance diesel variant) has allegedly been revealed in spy shots captured by Auto Plus reader Nicolas, from Europe.
The 2017 VW Golf GTD’s profile apparently hasn’t changed, but it does appear to wear a new rear apron and dual twin exhaust mufflers. The GTD variant sits below the GTI/GTI Clubsport, R and GTE variants in the Golf range, and is the diesel equivalent of the GTI variant.
The current VW Golf GTD is powered by the 2.0-litre TDI turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 184 PS at 3,500 rpm and 280 lb.-ft. (380 Nm) of torque at 1,750 rpm. The diesel engine is paired to a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Unlike the VW Golf R, the VW Golf GTD doesn’t gets the 4MOTION all-wheel drive system, and is driven by the front wheels. Changes in these aspects may arrive with the facelift.
The renewed Golf range is expected to go on sale in Europe in early 2017. Volkswagen may start accepting orders for the new model from later this month.
