The Golf GTI was the first ever hot hatchback in the world and for over three decades, it's been perhaps the world's best driver's car in its class.

The standard GTI is powered by a two-litre turbocharged direct-injected petrol engine that makes 220 PS. The GTI performance variant, retaining this hardware, puts out 230PS, and both vehicles develop a peak torque of 350Nm. The standard GTI completes the 0-100 kph dash in 6.5 seconds with a top speed of 246kph, while the Performance variant takes just 6.4 seconds to reach a ton and accelerates all the way to 250 kph.

Both GTI models have a Stop-Start system on-board. They comply with EU-6 emissions norms that takes effect next year and are paired to a 6-speed manual transmission. Both cars have a fuel consumption rating of 16.6 kpl and a CO2 emission rating of 139 g/km. When paired to the optional 6-speed DSG, the cars consume 15.6 kpl and 15.3 kpl respectively with CO2 emissions of 148 and 150 g.km

The Golf GTI's sporty character is expressed with red-painted brake calipers, chrome tailpipes and a sport suspension. The car is fitted with 17-inch "Brooklyn" GTI wheels and 224/45 size tires, unique side sills, smoked tail lights and a diffuser.

In the cabin, the GTI model gets a sport steering wheel, GTI gear shift grip and instrument cluster, unique trim strips, stainless steel pedals and foot rest.

“Tornado Red”, “Black” and “Pure White” are the body colors offered on the Golf GTI. Order books open today in Germany, and prices start at 28,350 euros (20.26 lakhs). Deliveries begin in March.
