The hybrid variant is now available to pre-order in South Korea.

Hyundai has released several new renderings and details of the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq. We have seen other exterior and interior renderings as well as fully undisguised exterior spy shots previously, but the new renderings show some more detail about the design and styling.

Hyundai Ioniq exterior rendering
The Hyundai Ioniq will be available with hybrid, plug-in hybrid and pure electric powertrain choices.

Up front, the Hyundai Ioniq has been given a very aggressive face with stretched-out headlamps with C-shaped daytime running lights, large hexagonal upper grille, slim lower grille and vertically positioned air inlets. On the sides, the notchback has a sleek greenhouse and large alloy wheels. The interior appears to be just like that of a regular car, although blue accents on various elements do remind that it’s an eco-friendly, electrified car.

The hybrid variant features a 1.6 GDi petrol engine.

Based on a new bespoke platform, the Hyundai Ioniq isn’t just an electrified car, but a range of electrified cars that will be offered in conventional hybrid, plug-in hybrid and all-electric variants. The conventional hybrid variant features a 1.6-litre Kappa GDi petrol engine that is assisted by electric power. Power is sent to the wheels via a 6-speed DCT gearbox.

In South Korea, the Ioniq hybrid range will include five trim levels – I, I+, N, N+ and Q. Noteworthy features include Michelin efficient tyres, 4.2-inch colour LCD panel for the instrument cluster, wireless charging system, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, Automatic Emergency Braking system (AEB), Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) and Blind Spot Detection system (BSD).

The plug-in hybrid variant uses a combination of petrol engine and electric power. The electric motor of the all-electric variant is powered by a lithium-ion battery. Full technical details of the hybrid variant should be released later this month, with the other two variants set to follow in the coming months.

The Hyundai Ioniq is now available to pre-order in South Korea. It will have its world premiere there later this month and have its European premiere at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show in March. Later in the same month, the North American premiere will be held at the 2016 New York International Auto Show.
