Based on Renault-Nissan CMF architecture.
The fourth generation 2016 Renault Megane has made its world debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, and will go on sale from early 2016. It features a futuristic yet mature exterior styling, premium interior with much more equipment, and a fuel-efficient range of engines.
The new Megane gets the signature V-Motion grille with the big Renault lozenge centrally placed, flanked by sleek headlights with Pure Vision LED illumination and C-shaped LED DRLs similar to the Renault Talisman. The bumper features chrome accents on the air intakes and horizontal fog lamps, and has a wider radiator grille.
The rear comes with new LED taillights that extend upto the centrally-placed Diamond logo. It also features a roof spoiler spoiler, sculpted rear bumper, and a single chrome-finished exhaust tip.
Compared to the outgoing model, the new Megane is 64mm longer (4,359mm) and 25mm lower (1,447mm), and has a 28mm longer wheelbase (2,669mm).
A Renault Megane GT will also be available from launch, which comes with tweaks made by Renault's RenaultSport division. It features broader air intakes and honeycomb design grille while the rear gets two chrome-finished tail pipes and F1-inspired spoiler.
‘Renualtsport’ badging at the rear and front fender will further help to distinguish the GT. It will be offered with a new "Iron Blue" paintwork combined with "Dark Metal" finishes at the front and body-coloured door mirrors. 18-inch aluminium wheels especially developed by Renaultsport will be fitted to the model.
The 2016 Megane gets a high-quality interior with 8.7-inch R-Link 2 touchscreen similar to the one seen in the 2015 Renault Espace MPV. The instrument cluster has a large tachometer at the center with a digital speedometer sitting inside it. The buttons in the cabin have also been reduced, as most of the function are now integrated into the infotainment touch screen.
The 2016 Mégane’s has a boot capacity of 434 liters, which is claimed to be the second largest in the compact car sector, and has an interior stowage space of 25 liters in total.
As for engine lineup, the new Mégane will be available with six engine options from launch. This includes three dCi diesels with 90 hp, 110 hp or 130 hp, and three TCe petrol options with outputs of 100, 130 or 205hp. While a manual gearbox is available in the lower variants, a six-speed EDC dual-clutch automatic is available with the dCi 110, and a 7-speed EDC automatic for the TCe 130 and TCe 205 (Megane GT).
In early 2017, an ‘Hybrid Assist’ diesel will be added, which targets a fuel consumption figure (NEDC cycle) of below 94.1 mpg and CO2 emissions of 76 g/km.
