A flagship Mercedes-Maybach variant is also expected.
Autocar India reports that the long wheelbase version of the 2016 Mercedes E Class will be offered in India, alongside the regular version of the E Class sedan. So far, the Mercedes E Class LWB has been exclusive to the Chinese market.
The current E Class LWB sold in China is 5,024 mm in length, which is 145 mm longer than the regular model. It is also 15 mm higher in ground clearance to better suit the road conditions in China. Only available in the Avant Garde trim, it comes with electric powered seats and DVD entertainment at the back. These numbers and features could be carried over to the next generation model as well.
The Maybach edition will offer improved legroom and exclusive materials with characteristic Maybach touches, as well as subtle design modifications on the outside for further differentiation. Expect to see the massage function being carried over to the E Class lineup, and not to mention the characteristic Maybach emblem on the C-Pillar. The next generation E Class LWB will be available globally, unlike the left-hand drive, China-only outgoing model.

The LWB variant is likely to be offered with the new six-cylinder petrol engine (codename: M256) and diesel engine (codename: OM656), which will be paired to a new 9G-Tronic 9-speed automatic transmission as standard.
The 2016 Mercedes E Class will make its debut at the 2016 Detroit Motor Show on January 11. It could be launched in India towards the end of 2016 or early-2017.
