No sign of the NS's 200 cc engine on the Avenger yet.
The 2016 Bajaj Avenger has been spotted again apparently at Bajaj Auto's Chakan plant. Two of the three expected variants, the fully black 'Street' model and the chrome treated classic version named 'Cruise', have been snapped up-close, revealing finer details.
The new spyshots of the upcoming Avengers reveal one of their most important parameters, the powertrain. Earlier, it was believed that the Harley-inspired alloy wheeled version will be powered by the Pulsar AS 200's engine, and the traditional looking spoke wheeled model will continue to be propelled by the 220 cc engine which debuted on the Pulsar 220.
It is clear now that both the versions feature the same old 220 cc single-cylinder air-cooled DTS-i engine with an oil-cooler, that currently produces 19.03 PS at 8,400 rpm and 17.5 Nm at 7,000 rpm, teamed up with a 5-speed gearbox.
Hence, Bajaj Auto has named them Avenger 220 Street and Avenger 220 Cruise. The former is given the embellishments and equipment suitable for a street bike and the latter is loaded with looks and features that's essential for a mile muncher.
