Aisin's technology could improve the Scorpio's mileage and lower its NVH.

While M&M introduced the Mahindra Scorpio AT last week, a report on Autocar India states that an all-new automatic transmission is planned for next year.

The current Mahindra Scorpio is equipped with a six-speed AT supplied by Drivetrain Systems International (DSI) of Australia, which has been tweaked for improvement in shift quality over the previous version.

The Autocar report says that the gearbox is a stopgap arrangement and that the company is working on sourcing an Aisin six-speed automatic transmission unit for the 2016 MY Scorpio. It will be mated to the same 2,179cc mHawk engine that produces 120 bhp at 4,000 rpm and 280 Nm of torque between 1,800-2,800 rpm.

The Aisin unit, known internally as ‘Version 4’, is yet to be launched globally. It is reported as being an improved version of the current six-speed TF-80SC unit that finds application in the Volvo S80, Peugeot 508 and Cadillac SRX. The first launch of the Version 4 would be on the XUV500 automatic in 2016, claims Autocar.
