According to Edmunds.com, Ford is planning to axe the 2016 Lincoln MKS sedan in 2016, which is currently produced at Ford's Chicago plant. The phasing out of the MKS could make way for the production-spec Lincoln Continental, due for a debut in the second half of 2016.
Previewed by the Lincoln Continental Concept from the 2015 New York Auto Show, the 2017 Lincoln Continental is expected to be based on a stretched version of the Ford Fusion's (Ford Mondeo's) CD4 platform, which also underpins the latest Ford Taurus.
If the Lincoln Continental borrows the engine lineup from the new Ford Taurus, expect a new 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine or a larger 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 engine delivering more than 400 hp. Also on the cards is a 9-speed automatic gearbox, and an optional AWD system.

Suppliers have told Edmunds that the production of the 2017 Lincoln Continental will begin at about the same time at the Ford's Flat Rock plant in southeastern Michigan.
