Bajaj is looking to increase Avenger volume from under 4k units to 9k units a month.
Bajaj Auto is reported by Autocar Professional be developing a Bajaj Avenger 150 to expand the company's range of cruisers and to get a first mover advantage.
Rajiv Bajaj, the Managing Director of Bajaj Auto, had recently disclosed that the company is planning to launch three new variants of the Avenger immediately. Two new models have been spied, identified as Bajaj Avenger 220 Street and Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruise. The 150 cc variant would be the third model.
It was earlier believed that the company will roll out Avengers with three engines - 220 cc unit from the current Avenger, 200 cc motor from Pulsar 200 NS/AS and 180 cc mill from Pulsar 180. Now it appears that the 200 cc engine will not be offered on Bajaj's cruiser, and instead the model will feature an entry-level performance segment engine, the 150 cc unit, seen aboard the Pulsar AS 150.
With the three Avenger models, Bajaj Auto, which is currently selling an average of 3,600 units of the cruiser per month with one variant, targets 8,000-9,000 units.
Aside from domestic sales, the exports of the Avenger models would also be substantially increased, adds the report.
