The third generation Audi TT continues testing in India ahead of its 2015 launch. Audi unveiled the sportscar at the Geneva Motor Show this year, and started production this August at its Hungarian plant. It is this plant which will ship the new TT to India as fully built-up units (CBU).
The new TT may be resemblant of the older model in overall shape and size, but it's completely new underneath. Engineers have used the VW Group's modular MQB platform, and in the process have saved 50 kg, despite increasing the wheelbase by a good 37 mm.
Inside, further modernization is to be found as the TT is the first model from the VW Group to get the Virtual Cockpit. The system neatly integrates the MMI feature (which forms basis of the central screen in all Audis) into the instrument cluster of the car, so that the driver doesn't need to take his/her eyes off the road to toggle the GPS or the car's systems (like suspension or steering settings).
The cabin is further clutter free as even the controls for the dual-zone AC have been integrated into the circular vents, which Audi says enacts jet turbines.
The new TT is powered only by 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines. The petrol unit is offered in power states of 230 bhp and 310 bhp (TT-S), while the diesel makes 184 bhp. The engines can be had with manual and S-Tronic dual-clutch transmissions, with front wheel drive or Audi's Quattro all wheel drive system.
