The Yamaha Alpha automatic scooter greeted the Sri Lankans at the 2014 Colombo Motor Show shortly before its market introduction.
The made-in-India scooter will be positioned alongside the Ray – also made in India – to cover a wide audience base. While the Ray features a sharp design, the Alpha adopts curvy lines.
The seat is large enough to accommodate two adults comfortably. The Alpha is available in five color options – Fiery Red, Magical Magenta, Graceful Grey, Radiant White and Brilliant Black.
It measures 1,795 mm in length, 675 mm in width, 1,124 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 1,270 mm. The seat is 775 mm above the ground, and the scooter has a minimum ground clearance of 128 mm and tips the scales at 104 kg.
Power comes from a 113 cc air-cooled engine which is mated to a V-belt type CVT to produce 7.1 PS and 8.1 Nm of torque. A telescopic fork at the front and single sided coil spring at the rear take care of suspension duties while drum brakes at both ends provide stopping power. The tyres are of size 90/100-10.
The price of the Alpha in Sri Lanka is estimated to be LKR 211,000 (around INR 99,400) which is same as the Yamaha Ray.
