The 2014 Toyota Corolla has commenced its testing activities in India. The first spy shots showing a camouflaged test mule on Indian soil emerged last week.
The executive sedan has been spied once again and this image comes from Motoroids reader, Thilak Roa. The car was seen testing in Karnataka, which makes perfect sense given that Toyota Kirloskar Motor's (TKM) facility operates from that state.
The Corolla seen testing here (and in the previous spy capture) is the Euro-spec Corolla earmarked for European and Asian markets. Compared to the American Corolla, the European Corolla has a more 'swoopy' and less-sporty styling. This has been done on purpose as Corolla customers in Asian markets are usually chauffeur driven and come from the upper band of the age group.
The European Corolla entered production at Toyota's Sakarya plant in Turkey, during the first week of July this year. Deliveries within Europe have not yet commenced though.
Our source informs us that the new Corolla would go on sale in the Indian market by mid-2014. When TKM launches the new Corolla, it would be offered with a petrol and a diesel engine. The 1.8-liter four-cylinder 138bhp VVT-i petrol motor could be sold with a 6-speed manual or a 7-step CVT gearbox while the 1.4-liter D-4D diesel engine would offer a 6-speed manual only.
