The number one luxury car maker in the world is all set to give its ‘sportiest SUV’ a new life.
BMW engineers are working day and night to make sure that the all new BMW X5 is inch perfect.
Expected to debut sometime next year, the BMW X5 has grown is all dimensions. The idea is to distance it from the X3 which has also grown in size to distance itself from the X1. As the all new BMW X5 is longer than its predecessor, there is a very good chance that it will be offered with a third row seating option.
Codenamed the F15, the new BMW X5 will be built on the new ‘X for All’ platform making it 150 kgs lighter than the current generation thus improving performance, handling and fuel economy.
The new BMW X5 is going to be a big evolution in terms of design. Spyshots reveal that it will have a blunt nose and will get headlights that stretch to touch the grille like the current 3 Series. It will feature a sloping roofline and a prominent front grille, as well as a dual exhaust system and a tailgate-mounted spoiler.
On the inside, it will feature premium features like a bigger iDrive display, a three-spoke steering wheel, wood trim and metallic accents, along with leather upholstery.
2014 BMW X5 will feature an exquisite set of engines such as -
- 2.0-litre four cylinder diesel engine with 245bhp and 349 Nm of torque.
- 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo petrol engine with 306 hp and 400 Nm of torque
- S63Tu 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 with 564bhp for the X5M
- ActiveHybrid variant consisting of a 3.0 litre diesel engine mated to a 109bhp electric motor
All engines will be mated to an 8 speed automatic transmission sending power to all four wheels
The next gen BMW X5 is due to launch next year, possibly at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September. The BMW X5M will head to stands in 2014.
