The Bajaj Discover 100M was launched last week and the current Discover lineup includes the 100, 100M, 100T, 125, 125T and 125ST. However, according to Economic Times, Bajaj will introduce two more products on the Discover platform within the next six to eight months.
Bajaj's aim is pretty simple: They want to dethrone Hero's Splendor, which has been the largest selling model for quite sometime now. A Hero spokesperson said that the company sold 10,39,006 units of the Splendor in the first half of the current fiscal, which is more than double of the Discover's 5,01,270 unit sales in the same period.
This translates into a market share of about 50% for the Splendor while Bajaj has less than half at about 18-20%. To close the gap between itself and Hero, Bajaj says that they need to bring in new products in the "value segment" which accounts for 45% of the overall motorcycle market.
As a result, the upcoming Discover top-hats would be based on the 100cc and 125cc models, as 150cc does not speak the same language of 'value' as the 100-125cc segment.
The Discover 100M is powered by a 102cc four-stroke engine producing 9.3 PS and 0.92 kgm of torque. The bike comes with a 5-speed gearbox and the top-speed is rated at 95 km/h. The 100M is priced from INR 45,996 (ex-Showroom, New Delhi).
