Introduced in 1963, the 911 marched on to become one of the most successful sports cars in automotive history with more than 8,20,000 units built till date. The 911 clearly deserves a year long 50th anniversary celebration and that is exactly what Porsche has in mind.

The Stuttgart based automaker is planning a series of celebratory events across the world throughout the calender to mark the 50th anniversary of the 911. The first of the events kick starts in March.

Porsche will showcase four of its special 911 models from their Museum at the auto show in Stuttgart between March 7th and 11th. The cars to be exhibited are a vintage 911 Turbo Coupe, a 911 Cabriolet Study from 1981, a street legal version of 1997's 911 GT1 and the pre-series Type 754 T7.

Apart from the exhibition, a 1967 Porsche 911 will embark on a world tour. The classic 911 will cover five continents and will be showcased at Pebble Beach concours, Goodwood Festival Of Speed, California, China, Paris and Australia.

Various models of 911 will be showcased at many historical rallies, auto shows and motor sport events. Now that is the best way of paying homage to iconic cars that world has ever known.
