We always felt that the new Maruti Alto 800 looks a lot like the Figo but didn’t give this similarity any serious thought until the fully exposed Figo facelift was caught on camera yesterday by 'mohandasnikhil', a member of Team-BHP.com.
The shocking revelation is that the new Maruti Alto 800 (also spied undisguised by Team-BHP.com member 'Diesel Lover') shamelessly resembles the Ford Figo facelift!
Right from the slot like grill all the way to the air dam and headlamps, the similarity is so striking and one cannot digest the fact that a car manufacturer of Maruti Suzuki’s stature with all its R&D might in India and abroad could not come up with a unique design for the most successful model in their history.
You can’t blame Ford for the mishap because what they did was merely a minor facelift, that too in line with their current design language. The same can’t be said in the case of MSIL.
Where did the Indian designers who sketched the ravishing Concept A-Star and Concept RIII (the concept that gave birth to Ertiga) go?
It is hard to believe that this is an unfortunate coincidence.
We can’t wait to know what Ford India thinks about this mockery. Will there be a court room war or some form of a copyright infringement allegation? Well we don’t know yet, but we expected something more from Maruti!
