The 2012 BMW 3 Series will be brought down to India in four variants - 318d, 320d, 320i and 328i.
The 318d and 320d use the turbocharged four cylinder diesel engine displacing two-liter producing between 160-200 PS. The 318d is expected to be the fuel efficiency king in the new 3 Series stable. The 320d, with higher power and torque ratings, serves as the top-end diesel variant.
Coming to the petrols, here we have big news. The 320i is a twin-turbocharged two-liter petrol engine producing between 180-200 PS while the 328i is an in-line six-cylinder engine producing over 250PS. The 320i is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The most important aspect to the 2012 BMW 3 Series lineup in India?
There's no corporate edition! According to our sources, the 320i variant, the range starter, has expensive features such as an 8-speed transmission, cruise control function, iDrive, etc. The model spied by us is the 320i and the only sign of cost saving was the absence of a fog light, replaced by a plastic cut out. It's light beige interiors is kitted-out completely with all kinds of electronic aids.
