A 3 door (2 front doors + rear boot lid) version of the Hyundai i20 has been spotted in Indore thanks to our reader Neeraj Setpal. The i20 being tested was a left hand drive model and the destination sticker on the left butterfly window of the car reveled that it was destined for Switzerland.
Hyundai had unveiled the 3-door i20 at this year's Geneva Motor Show and would be offered with the 1.2 liter Kappa engine and be the cheapest car in the i20 range.
The car being a left hand drive and a 3 door may just be another case of an extremely devoted car manufacturer testing cars in India which are never going to come here. Hyundai might be testing a new component on the car or it could be a routine test for quality from a lot of cars.
However, if Hyundai launches a right hand drive 3-door i20 as special edition model like the 2003 Maruti Suzuki Zen 3-door Carbon and Steel edition with a limited production run, we guess Hyundai would get an image boost and the i20 would start looking glamorous.
The Hyundai i20 recently got an mild upgrade and the bulk of i20 production would be moving to Hyundai's Turkey plant. The Hyundai i20 MPV is also being tested and could come to India soon.
Thanks Neeraj!
