Will carry over its mechanicals from the R25.
Its no longer a secret that Yamaha is working on a naked version of the R25, which is speculatively called the MT 25 by the media. Earlier this week, PT Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing's (YIMM) Executive Vice President, Mr. Dionysius Beti, confirmed that the naked motorcycle will launch this year.
Mr. Beti added that the launch of the naked R25 is just a matter of few months, and is expected to be introduced post Eid (which takes place in the third week of July this year). He was reluctant to provide further details on the motorcycle as to its engine and styling.
Indonesian media reports point out that the Yamaha MT 25 will be powered by the same parallel twin-cylinder 250 cc engine which produces 36 PS (35.28 bhp) at 12,000 rpm and 22.6 Nm of torque at 10,000 rpm on the R25. This engine will be matched to a 6-speed transmission.
Reports also say that engineers have altered the seating and handlebar positions on the MT 25 for a more upright riding position. Yamaha would be marketing this motorcycle as a capable long-distance tourer in addition to highlighting its street-fighter looks. The MT 25 will be priced lower than the R25 as well.

It should be mentioned that India Yamaha Motor has not disclosed plans on launching either the R25 or the more powerful 321 cc Yamaha R3. However, one of these motorcycles would be green lighted for the country later this year.
