The Yamaha FZ FI V2.0 and the FZ-S FI V2.0 have been launched with a smaller engine and fuel injection technology. The company has decided not to discontinue the old models, in a bid to offer a wider choice to the customers.
Talking to PTI, Roy Kurian, Vice President, sales & marketing, Yamaha Motor India Sales, said that the old models will continue to be sold since the price difference between them and the respective new versions is around INR 5,300. The FZ FI V2.0 and the FZ-S FI V2.0 are priced at INR 76,250 and INR 78,250 (ex-showroom Delhi) respectively. He said that the company would like to give the customers a choice to buy whichever product suits their budget.
The Version 2.0 of the FZ series is powered by a 149 cc fuel injected engine which produces 13.1 PS and 12.8 Nm of torque. In comparison, the older FZ series is powered by a 153 cc motor which breaths via a carburetor to produce 14 PS and 13.6 Nm of torque. The new FZ and FZ-S are 3 kg lighter than the respective older models.

Yamaha says, despite the drop in the engine output, the FZ FI V2.0 series offers better performance. The company also claims that the fuel economy has been improved by 14% and the overall emission (Hydrocarbon + Nox) has been reduced by 33%.
The price difference allows the new and old version to be positioned in different sub-segments within the 150 cc category.
