Bookings for Ameo start tomorrow.
VW India President and Managing Director Andreas Lauermann told PTI that the company's Chakan plant is expected to produce 15 percent more cars this year, as compared to 2015. The German carmaker manufactured 123,000 cars last year.
The increase in production will come courtesy of the VW Ameo compact sedan, which is expected to launch in July this year. Bookings for the Ameo will start from tomorrow, as will a nationwide roadshow spanning 17 cities.
The Maruti Swift Dzire-rival will be offered with a 1.2-liter three-cylinder MPi petrol engine and a 1.5-liter four-cylinder TDI diesel engine. The petrol engine will be paired to a 5-speed manual transmission whereas the diesel will get options of a 5-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG.
