The TVS Jupiter scooter has been launched in India today. The scooter which targets the male audience, derives its name from the planet Jupiter, the largest among the planets in the solar system.
Power for the Jupiter comes from the familiar 110cc engine (which we are accustomed to seeing on the Wego). The engine produces 8 bhp at 7,500rpm and 8 Nm of torque at 5,500rpm. The company claims that the Jupiter is one of the quickest in its segment. Hence, 0-60km/h is dispatched within 7.2 seconds while the official fuel efficiency claim stands at 62km/l.
Key to this performance comes from re-tuning the engine for a higher compression and TVS informs us that the V-matic transmission has also been improved on the Jupiter.
A segment-first feature in the form of a pass light switch can be seen on the Jupiter. Other important stats include a 17-liter under-seat storage compartment for a full sized helmet and a 5.3-liter fuel tank (which is accessed by means of an external lid placed above the taillight).
The Jupiter is priced at INR 44,200 (ex-showroom, New Delhi). While sales in the North have already commenced (with 4,000 units being shipped), sales in the Southern region would begin in November.
The Jupiter is available in four exterior color shades - White, Red, Grey and Matte Black.
