The 2018 Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster made its debut in the country at the 2017 India Bike Week in Goa. Bikewale reports that the bike will be launched in the country in April 2018.
Speaking to the website on the side-lines India Bike Week, Vimal Sumbly, Managing Director, Triumph Motorcycles India said that the brand would start selling the bike as soon as the global production of the bike commences in the beginning of the next fiscal (April 2018). However, the booking of the bike has commenced.
The motorcycle is essentially a touring-friendly, more practical take on the Bonneville Bobber. The 2018 Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster employs the same tubular steel cradle frame as the Bobber. But, Triumph has designed the rear subframe to accommodate a pillion seat and a grab rail as well. The bike comes with a full LED lighting system. For laidback ergonomics, the cruiser employs beach bars and forward-set footpegs.
The Speedmaster employs the same 1200cc SOHC parallel twin engine with liquid cooling as the Bobber. It generates 77 PS of power at 6,100 rpm and 106 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. The engine mates with a 6-speed transmission with assist clutch. The bike gets a three-litre bigger fuel tank than the Bobber, at 12 litres. Electronics package include ABS with switchable traction control; ride-by-wire with two riding modes- road and rain; and cruise control.
Expect Triumph to display the motorcycle at the 2018 Auto Expo in the country as well. The bike is likely to command a premium of INR 1-1.5 lakh over the Bobber. The Bobber costs INR 9.32 lakhs, ex-showroom, pan-India. When launched, it would be the most affordable cruiser motorcycle from Triumph after the Thunderbird family.
