Tata Motors announced yesterday that it will launch the Tata Nexon this festive season. Team-BHP admin Ravenavi writes that select dealerships have started accepting bookings for the Tata Nexon. Note that Tata Motors has not announced bookings for the Tata Nexon.
Select dealerships are taking pre-orders unofficially for a token amount of INR 11,000. It is reported that official bookings will commence in August first week, just after the media launch scheduled late this month. The Tata Nexon will mark the company's entry in the B-SUV segment in which rival automakers like Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Ford are represented. Short for "NEXT-ON", the mini-SUV debuted in concept form at Auto Expo 2014 and later in near-production form at Auto Expo 2016.
After the Tata Tiago, Tata Hexa and Tata Tigor, the Tata Nexon is a another model created using the IMPACT design language. The production Tata Nexon's exterior and interior does not differ much from the version seen at Auto Expo 2016.
The Tata Nexon measures 3,995 mm in length, 1,811 mm in width and 1,607 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,498 mm and a ground clearance of 200 mm. Inside, it comes with features like two-tone colour scheme, 6.5-inch floating display for the infotainment system, engine push-start button, automatic climate control and rear AC vent.
The small SUV will debut powerful engines: (new) 1.2-litre Revotron petrol and 1.5-litre Revotorq diesel. It will offer multiple drive modes: Eco, City and Sport. The Eco mode will keep the fuel consumption low, the City mode will offer the most comfortable drive and the Sport mode will deliver the most the engine has to offer in performance.
The 1.2-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine develops 110 PS at 5,000 rpm and 170 Nm of torque from 2,000-4,000 rpm. The 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine produces 110 PS at 3,750 rpm and 260 Nm of torque from 1,500-2,750 rpm. The Nexon will have both engines paired to a new 6-speed manual transmission as standard. Reports say an AMT variant is in the pipeline.
