Could serve as Maruti's flagship product, if launched.

There is no definitive confirmation from MSIL on the launch of the Suzuki Vitara, but given the soaring demand for compact, locally manufactured, SUVs in the market, it would be surprising if Maruti gave the segment a miss.
The three Vitaras could have also been brought over for showcase at next year's Auto Expo in Noida, which could serve as a litmus test for Maruti to gauge people's feedback. If the company considers launching the Vitara in India, Maruti will soon have a diverse lineup of utility vehicles, which will include the Maruti S-Cross, the forthcoming sub-4m Maruti YBA SUV, and even the Maruti Ignis, which is reported to launch in the festive season period of 2016.
The Vitara in international markets is sold with two engine options: a 1.6-liter four-cylinder petrol making 120 hp and 156 Nm of torque, and a 1.6-liter diesel (same engine in the Maruti S-Cross) producing 120 hp and 320 Nm of torque. Transmission choices include 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic for the petrol option and a 6-speed manual for the diesel.
