The Suzuki iv-4 mini SUV was caught on test by readers of Auto Plus in France recently. As mentioned earlier, the iv-4, at least for now, is not India bound. The SUV will, however, launch in Europe accompanying the SX4 S-Cross, which launches in India early next year.
Suzuki previewed the design of the iv-4 at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September last year by way of a concept. The iv-4 concept had butch SUV styling, yet maintained compact dimensions at 4.21 meters length, 1.85 meters width and 1.66 meters height.
Suzuki has announced that it will make the iv-4 at its Hungarian plant in Magyar. Production and the European launch of the SUV will take place next year. Suzuki is likely to offer petrol and diesel variants of the iv-4. The diesel variant could be powered by Fiat's 1.6-liter Multijet engine which is also used by the SX4 S-Cross. The iv-4 will benefit from Suzuki's second generation ALLGRIP 4WD system.
Though the iv-4 is not part of Maruti's plans, India would get an SUV with the production sub-4 meter XA-Alpha in the next two years, shown at the 2012 edition of the Auto Expo. The XA-Alpha and SX4 S-Cross will make up Maruti's compact SUV portfolio in India.
