Regular readers may remember that Suzuki was filming promotional videos of the GW250 back in May this year. Now, Autocar India reports that Suzuki Motorcycles India Limited (SMIL) will launch the Inazuma GW250 naked street bike in January next year.
Furthermore, SMIL will launch/showcase other products at the upcoming Auto Expo in the first week of February 2014.
Atul Gupta, executive vice-president, SMIL, confirmed the development to the magazine saying that equal focus will be given to scooters and motorcycles.
The Inazuma GW250 will be brought into the country through the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route, while assembly of the bike will take place at the company's Gurgaon plant. Powering the Inazuma is a 248cc, fuel-injected, parallel twin motor producing 26 bhp and 24.4 Nm of torque and mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
The GW250 will compete with the likes of the KTM Duke 200, Honda CBR250R, Kawasaki Ninja 300 and the upcoming Pulsar and Mahindra Mojo.
A semi-faired Inazuma GW250S was shown at this year’s Auto Shanghai in April. However, the GW250S will be locally produced in China and would be exported to other markets only in the future.
Autocar believes that apart from the GW250, SMIL will launch a new commuter bike and a new scooter.
