News from the Tata Motors factory confirms that the 207 pickup truck will soon receive a facelift. We spotted a 207 BS4 DICOR being tested here in Chennai earlier this year and now our friends at Velociti magazine have more pictures of a Tata pickup powered using CNG.

What we're not sure of is if this is the 207 facelift or Xenon Mk2. We'll assume that this is the Xenon CNG and pen the rest of this story.

The Tata Xenon CNG was showcased at the Auto Expo in January this year. The vehicle debuted at the Bangkok International Motor Expo in 2008, and was launched in Thailand some time ago where there is a market for such a vehicle. The Xenon hasn't caught on with Indians because none of us want a lifestyle pickup due to factors like parking, maneuvering, etc. The practicality level is dreadfully low. This is India, not America!

Velociti claims the vehicle spied here is a mono-fuel type. It runs only on CNG, which is cheaper and offers more kilometers for the buck. With payload touching the 1-tonne mark and largest loading area among the competitors, the Xenon is a class leader.

Powered by a 2.1-liter engine, the Xenon makes 115 hp @ 5500 rpm and a maximum torque of 175 Nm @ 3750 rpm. The CNG pick-up has been developed along with Canada based Alternative Fuel Systems (AFS).

We have no idea of the launch date so stay tuned for more updates on the Xenon CNG.
