Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 wins the IMOTY 2019 award

The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 has won the prestigious IMOTY (Indian motorcycle of the year) 2019 Award at the recently concluded jury round.

The recently concluded awards ceremony also witnessed the Maruti Suzuki Swift winning the ICOTY (Indian car of the year) 2019 award. While the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 won top honours, the Yamaha R15 V3.0 and the TVS Apache RR 310 came second and third, respectively. The TVS Apache RTR 160 4V finished a close fourth.

The jury bench for the ICOTY 2019 included some of the top journalists in the Indian automobile industry. JK Tyres have been the title sponsors of the ICOTY and IMOTY awards since its inception. The list included 12 motorcycles, which were judged on the parameters of design, value for money, build quality, performance, fuel economy and practicality among others.

The IMOTY 2019 award was handed over to Siddhartha Lal, CEO, Royal Enfield by Dr Raghupati Singhania, Chairman & Managing Director, JK Tyre & Industries Limited. The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 has deservedly won the IMOTY 2019 for is indigenous engineering and development, and the immense value it offers is matched by none. Furthermore, it is also the more popular one amongst the 650 Twins.

With the neo-classic roadster, Royal Enfield aims to cater to its existing 3 million owners' needs for a more powerful motorcycle within the family while also enticing customers from rival manufacturers. The company did consider employing high tech features on the 650 Twins, but it decided to stick to its ethos of offering authentic classic riding experience.

The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 uses a 648cc 8-valve parallel-twin motor that produces 47 bhp and 52 Nm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox along with a standard slipper clutch. The motor has been designed and developed to offer strong low-end and mid-range torque along with linear power delivery. Priced at INR 2.50 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), and INR 2.33 lakh (ex-showroom) in some states like Kerala and Karnataka, the Interceptor 650 is the most affordable twin-cylinder motorcycle in the country.
