According to Team-BHP forum member SJM1214, the Royal Enfield Classic 350, Royal Enfield Bullet 350, and the Bullet ES will come equipped with dual-channel ABS. The ABS variants are to launch in India on 27 August, says Team-BHP.
If true, the introduction of ABS will make the Classic 350, Bullet 350 and the Bullet ES the first Royal Enfield bikes to receive the safety feature. None of the mentioned above India-spec bikes features a rear disc brake. However, Royal Enfield already manufactures dual-channel ABS equipped bikes for some export markets. It sure will add to the cost, but the additional safety net is a critical feature.
An ABS system prevents the motorcycle from skidding by avoiding wheel lockage during panic braking. The only downside of an ABS unit is the increase in stopping distance.
The Royal Enfield Classic 350 is the highest selling motorcycle from the Chennai-based bike maker with average monthly sales of over 35,000 units. On the other hand, the Royal Enfield Bullet 350 is the bare-bones entry-level bike from RE, while the Bullet ES offers an electric starter and front disc brake. All three bikes are based on the same chassis and share the engine and various other mechanical bits.
Powering the Royal Enfield 350 cc motorcycles is a 346 cc, single-cylinder, 4-stroke, air-cooled, Twinspark engine that is tuned to generate 19.8 bhp of maximum power at 5,250 rpm and a peak torque of 28 Nm at 4,000 rpm. All three motorcycles feature a 5-speed gearbox.
The Royal Enfield Bullet ES and Classic 350 come with a 280 mm front disc with 2-piston calliper, and a 153 mm rear drum brake. On the other hand, the Royal Enfield Bullet 350 gets its stopping power from a 7” front and 153 mm rear drum brakes.
All three motorcycles feature wire-spoke wheels that pair to tube-type tires. The bikes come equipped with 35 mm telescopic forks up front with 130 mm wheel travel and twin coil-spring shock absorbers at the rear.
