Gets 50,000 bookings.
Renault India has received over 50,000 bookings for the Renault Kwid. This amount of orders is unprecedented by the brand, and has caused the company to increase the model's monthly production target.
This is reported to potentially drive prospective customers away as the waiting period for the budget hatchback has already reached five months in certain cities. Renault India is ramping up production in view of keeping the waiting period under six months.
Sumit Sawhney, Renault India Operations country CEO and managing director, has confirmed that the company is increasing the production of the Renault Kwid and told Times of India, "We have ramped up the production and are taking concerted efforts to further accelerate production to enable faster deliveries."
Sawhney added, "We are also seeing new consumer trends across urban and rural India." It is reported that a sizable proportion of customers are buying the Renault Kwid as their first car, which Sawhney is reported to believe is a sign of the Kwid being an aspirational product in the Indian market.
The Renault Kwid was launched on September 24 in six variants ranging between INR 2.56 lakhs and INR 3.53 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi).
